Why did I choose Anthropology?
Why did I choose Anthropology?
When I was a kid I don't think I had a dream job, I just liked playing "secretary", writing on papers, asking for signatures and stuff like that, but nothing else. Later, when I was in school I really liked history and from high school I started looking for a career that was related to that subject. I had as an option pedagogy in history, sociology, anthropology and archaeology.
After thinking a lot and seeing the scores that I needed for each degree, I ended up choosing anthropology at the University of Chile, first because it is the university where I always wanted to go, second because it was the degree that required the highest score in history of all the others, and finally because I could have 2 years to study, get information and choose a specialization.
I think what I liked most about this career is the wide range of work that exists, the doors that open to travel and study other cultures, and how interesting I find the study of human beings on a cultural and social level.
My experience at the university so far has been complex, I like the subjects I have, I love the subject we pass, but I hate not being able to do all this in person with my classmates, work in laboratories, make trips, know the university, live alone in Santiago, etc.
I think the dream job I could have would be one that would allow me to travel all over the world, meeting people, their traditions, their cultures and their ways of being. I believe that if I could achieve that, I could die peacefully.
